I heard the moon call out my name

I heard the moon call out my name

As I lay in flannel all alone in bed

A book half opened I had no heart to read.

She woke me from a melancholy reverie

As if a bell were pealing from an ancient spire

That knew my every syllable.

She floated thru my window,

As round and full as if I dreamed her,

And laid her glowing face upon my pillow

So I could breathe her fragrance, cool as dew,

While she lavished me, so pure and pearly.

All night long we merged our orbits

Till I woke, and saw her fade into the morning light,

My name a memory wrapped in her radiance.
